Perfumania!

Smelling good is a must! so Shannon and I decided to show you guys a couple of our favourite fragrances and a few that we've been yearning to get, have a look..

Debbie's Favourites

from l to r: DKNY Be Delicious EDT & Be Delicious Fresh Blossom | D&G 3 L'Emperatrice | VS Very Sexy Glow body mist | BBW Twilight Woods body mist
Debbie's thoughts: I tend to gravitate towards fruity, floral and fresh smelling scents and at times scents that evoke a warm, nostalgic feeling like Twilight Woods. Wearing perfumes for me is not just about smelling good but they sometimes bring back fond memories of people and events within my life.

Shannon's Favourites

from l to r: Dior Miss Dior | Federico Mahora FM | Liz Claiborne Bora Bora | BBW Bali Mango & Pink Chiffon body mists

Shannon's thoughts: a woman should not only look fabulous but smell great as well. Perfumes can make you feel empowered or girlie depending on the fragrance and these scents represent that for me.

Shannon's perfume wish list:
Marc Jacob Daisy

Debbie's perfume wish list:
Something from Chanel...not sure which one yet
Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy: been eyeing this one for a while

So what's your favourite fragrance and do you have any great suggestions?

PSA: Carol's Daughter arrives in JA!

Now, Carol's Daughter has been around for over 18 years and has created quite a name for themselves; the brand started from humble beginnings with owner Lisa Price, carefully crafting skincare products from her home and selling those products at local craft fairs, now her company has grown and evolved into one of the premier natural skincare and haircare lines available within the US. Her products are infused with rich, exotic and even rare ingredients and they evoke a certain decadence and luxury.

For the first time, they will be available in our little island of Jamaica at the exclusive retailer Nettle and Moss and you can be their for the official launch on Fashion's Night Out, September 6, 2012. The best part of all, Lisa Price will be there in person to talk about the line!

As we say in JA, to miss is to diss!
Will you be there to check out the launch?

Ombre Ends

I have gotten quite a few questions on how I achieved the ombre effect on the ends of my hair, so I decided to do a quick post just to tell you what I did.

You don't have to spend a lot of money at a salon just to have a colourist do it and neither do you have to spend hours/days using developers or bleach, which is extremely damaging to the hair, you can simply use a permanent hair colour to achieve the ombre effect. I chose to use the Clairol Textures & Tones permanent moisture-rich hair color in the colour '6BV (Bronze)'. This permanent hair colour is also ammonia free, which is a plus.

Make sure that you carefully read and follow the instructions on the leaflet, especially if you're doing it on your own hair.

1. Mix the colour activating creme and the hair colour together properly.
2. Apply the colour to about 1 inch of the tips of the hair.
3. After about 15 minutes, apply the rest of the colour upward from end to approximately 3 inches, or to   your desired distance
4. Let the hair colour sit on the hair for about 2 hrs, as this will give the colour enough time to take to the hair.
5. Afterwards, rinse thoroughly, wash and condition the hair, and allow it to air dry.

This is how mine turned out on Virgin Brazilian hair...

Items Favoured & Flawed

It's that time once again where I showcase anything that I've been gravitating towards and those things that just didn't make the cut for me over the past several months, so let's jump right into it and get started

ITEMS FAVOURED

Now I've always heard about the great benefits of using witch hazel, and since I was in the market for a new facial toner I decided to grab this at a local health food store and I'm glad I did; there's no drying alcohol and the added aloe extract is really great. It balances my skin and removes excess residue and dirt that's hidden in my pores even after cleansing.

I should thank Shannon for reintroducing this to me and if you're wondering 'What the heck is she doing with this?' don't be alarmed, Milk of Magnesia is a great oil absorbing primer for the face; I use it to prevent my face from looking like a greasy pizza by the end of the day. I apply it to my face and allow a few minutes for it to dry completely then follow up with my L'oreal Magic Perfecting Base primer and my face looks flawless and shine-free for hours!

I've been lazy and I haven't made my body butter recently, so I needed a body moisturizer ASAP, so I picked this up at Price Smart (it's cheaper there) and it has been great at moisturizing my skin without leaving behind a greasy residue and it doesn't feel too heavy on the skin.

Razor bumps? What razor bumps? This has been a life saver for me and is now a part of my daily routine. I initially bought this to help diminish those pesky razor bumps and it has definitely done that. I now use it as an after shave lotion to stop razor bumps from popping up. It's great for underarms, bikini line, wherever you get razor bumps.

I normally used my Clarisonic to cleanse my face, but quite honestly I've been giving it a rest because for the past 2 months I just enjoy using these facial sponges to help cleanse my face. It's better than just washing with your hands as they offer gentle exfoliation and you can get them at most pharmacies for pretty cheap. I recommend allowing your sponge to dry outside of the shower after each use and changing them every month and a half or so.

This store is gonna take all my money!! and if you don't know about ASOS.COM, girl you better recognize! This UK based online store offers great fashionable clothing, jewelry, accessories, and a whole lot more. They can be pricey, but I only shop in the sale section, and you can ALWAYS get some awesome deals there and the best treat of all, THEY SHIP TO JA FOR FREEEEE!!!! (N.B. it does take a while though ....JA postal service is like snail mail)

Here's a tiny tiny sneek peek of a beach outfit I styled with a pair of high waisted hot pants that I purchased from ASOS for only USD$9 !! I will be featuring it in an upcoming haul video so stay tuned!!

ITEMS FLAWED

I wish I could say that I loved this foundation, but my initial love for it has faded away; I don't know what happened but it just makes me look like a hot mess no matter what I try. I don't know, I guess it's just one of those things. I tried to use it up but it looks so ashy on my face I just gave up. It expires this month so I don't feel too bad about throwing it out.

If you guys didn't already know, I'm a natural haired chick, so I've been learning how to take care of my hair myself, although it hasn't been too easy. I saw this new product on the market by Organic Root Stimulator and they've been known for their great Olive Oil products so I decided to try it out, but this No Restrictions Moisturizing Conditioner totally missed the mark, and the ingredient to blame.... the dreaded SILICONE. After I deep conditioned with it, I rinsed my hair out and it felt like dry, brittle hay! I immediately went back in the shower and washed my hair all over again. I guess my hair doesn't like silicones, so I don't like this product and that's that.

Well guys if you've tried any of these products let me know what you think about them. So until my next installment of Items Favoured & Flawed... see ya later!

First Look: Illamasqua Nail Polishes

Illamasqua has been buzzing around Youtube for a while and is the topic of much discussion on beauty blogs as well, but this is actually my very first experience with the British based brand and I decided to get my feet wet by purchasing three of their nail polishes. I picked up these nail polishes at a Sephora store while I was away on vacation, and for USD$14.00 a pop they are pretty darn expensive but I decided to take the plunge nonetheless since I was sooo anxious to try them out. So here's the line up.... from left to right we have Nomad, Lament and Jo'mina and all these shades have a high gloss finish, but Illamasqua does make a variety of other shades with matt and rubberized finishes; you can take a look at the entire collection here.

Unboxed

I was highly impressed with the nail polishes, I actually achieved decent opacity in one thick coat and the colours were rich, bold and super glossy, the way nail polishes should be. The brush applicator is a bit thin as seen in the picture below, but this does not affect the application of the nail polish itself; and the packaging/bottle is sleek and some what regal looking in my opinion.

First on the list is Nomad and it is described on the Ilamasqua website as a bright jade, take a closer look...

Lament is a gorgeous bright coral pink

And last but not least Jo'mina is described as an electric lilac

My final thoughts... YES!! I would definitely recommend these polishes to any nail varnish aficionados out there. They are pricey, yes I know, but you get what you pay for; they are great long lasting, full coloured and highly glossy nail polishes that are worth a try.

Hope this helped :)

OOTD: Day by the River

Jamaica's emancipation/independence holiday must be the most anticipated period in Jamaica for 2012. We celebrated our 50th year of independence and also we were all hyped on the amazing Olympic's showdown that was to come. Event's were being held all over the island to celebrate Jamaica50. This was a time for me to spend quality time with my family and just celebrate being Jamaicans!

On Emancipation Day, my family and I took a trip to Portland, the parish where my grandmother is from and we had a family riverside cookout. We had a lovely time, and this is the outfit I wore for my day by the river. The outfit is pretty much casual and neutral, with a pop of neon. Belts are a simple way of incorporating colour into a neutral look.

Top: H&M  |  Shorts: Hollister

Headband: Forever21

Belt: Plata (HK)  |  Bangles: Bershka

Bag: Coach  |  Slippers: Roxy

Hope you had a splendid holiday!

OOTD: Movie Date

Recently I went to watch the amazing Batman, which I must say lived up to all the hype. I decided to keep it simple and casual by wearing jeans and a nice top. I love the pastel colours in the top as they blend to create a unique pattern.

Top: Forever21

Pants: Hollister

Cuff: HK market  |  Watch: Michael Kors  |  Bracelets: H&M

Bag: Japanese Boutique

Sandals: Bridget Sandals

Did you go to see Batman? How was it?
